Growing To Learn: New Ideas In Child Education

As a teacher aide who has recently returned to the profession after a fifteen-year break, I am impressed and somewhat overwhelmed by the new innovations and techniques being used to educate children. The use of interactive boards, self-directed learning and differentiation are just some of the practices which I find interesting and inspiring. Of course, many traditional methods such as storytelling are used to motivate children as well. In my conversations with parents, I realise that many of them feel inadequate and are unsure about ways to reinforce learning at home. This blog is designed to highlight the best of child education and reassure parents that they can be excellent teachers as well. I hope that my readers are encouraged by the ideas and information contained within. I wish you joy in watching your children grow and learn.

4 Things to Consider When Choosing a Daycare Program

Sending your little one to school is a significant parenting milestone. Most people find leaving their child in someone else's care intimidating too. However, you do not have to approach the process with anxiety. You can assess a number of institutions to determine the ideal one for your child. Here are the top four things to consider when choosing a program.

Consider the School Environment

Your child's new school environment is where they spend most of their day. Ensure it is highly engaging, safe and secure for young children. You can pay the school a visit and assess their safety measures. For example, ask the management about school bus safety, and check the surroundings for a fence, guards and other physical security indicators. Check for fire alarm systems and emergency numbers. All these show the school cares about your young one's safety.

Check the Program and Curriculum

It is never too early to start age-appropriate learning for your child. Ask the schools you have shortlisted to share their curriculum and assess it. Ask about the lessons taught and their appropriateness for your learner. The best schools have a learner-centered curriculum tailored for the child's age and developmental milestones. Also, check whether they have allocated ample time for play. Children need enough play time because that's when they learn social interactions and refine their fine motor skills. A great school has a system to update you on your child's developmental progress.

Assess the Teacher and Student Interaction

It is important to note that once you take your child to their first school, the teacher becomes their new primary caregiver. You should be concerned about the quality of interaction between the teacher and your child. Ensure the teacher has training as an early childhood care expert. Also, check whether the school has a high turnover. Changing teachers often affects children's emotional attachment styles.

Consider Their Routine

Once you enroll your child in a childcare center, you have to synch their school schedule with your work schedule. Choose a school that fits well into your morning and evening schedule. Also, make sure the school has a constant routine. When the schools create a programme, it becomes simpler to handle your child in the evening.

These are simple rules to follow when choosing a daycare program for your child. Assess schools carefully and choose one that fulfills most if not all of the conditions. Your child's educational foundation depends on this.
